A Tour Of My Still Unfinished Kitchen And My Plans To Complete It

From I Build It Home on Tuesday, January 30th, 2018 in Kitchen & Bath & Videos
There were a couple of things that I left out of this, mainly because I haven't made up my mind whether I'll include them. One is what's known as an appliance garage that would go in the corner of the L of the countertop. It would have a roll up door and would contain small appliances like a food processor.
Here are some ways that you can help support the work I do in making these videos:

Like the pull outs in the pantry so much nicer to organize and see what you have than shelves great idea to do that over the fridge too always a pain to access that cabinet
Kris Maples Tuesday, February 6th, 2018
The cleaver was my favorite part
Donna M. Schmid Tuesday, February 6th, 2018
I would definitely center the light above your pull-out shelving! Otherwise, one shelf would be well-lit, while the other is "in shade!" Centering the light would prevent that, esp. since they're both going to be facing the center...

Epoxy grout is great stuff, a bit more of a process to install but I’m surprised it’s not more widely used.

Is it a camera trick or your ceiling is quite low?Talking about ceiling, are you making any texture on it, like "pop-corn"? It would be great to see how you are doing that.Love your "I build It *" vids.

I love the maple frame around the windows, very classy !

Love the emergency life saving criminal cleaver hanging on the door.

Looks good. One suggestion relating to the pullout cabinet at the start. I would flip that one you have installed so that it faces into the kitchen. That way it, and the one you install beside it, are more accessible from the kitchen side.

Perfect place to hang a cleaver within easy reach! :-P

Rub the fridge with baby oil to protect it. A butcher once told me it's what they use on their steel work for protection...

Is that a standard fridge? You look like a giant next to it

Thank you for update, love the channel. It's Miller time!
Jerod Matlock Thursday, February 1st, 2018
definitely make both the pull out cabinets face the sink so you can stand in one place and grab contents out of both cabinets
Mark Eddy Thursday, February 1st, 2018
Would a second pot light next to the one empty space work? It looks like one would light up one side of the cabinet pull and the second would do the same. Just a thought...

I love that I can watch this video at 2x speed so comfortably. Thanks for enunciating so well, John.

Keep at it man. This channel inspires me to get to work on my house

I'd be uncomfortable with the butcher knife threatening to fall on my hands or feet when closing the cabinet door too quickly. What an odd, exposed location for it. Rest of the kitchen looks great though.
Billy H. Wednesday, January 31st, 2018
The countertop looks great and the off-center light will drive you nuts if you don't center it. The house is sweet!
Robert Edwards Wednesday, January 31st, 2018
Looking forward to the renovation
John van Gurp Wednesday, January 31st, 2018
Thanks for sharing. I love that countertop treatment, as well as the beautiful, clean and simple window trim. I'm planning to both finish my cottage kitchen, and after that to do a major reno in my city home and that's exactly the same look we will be using. Your videos are so helpful and inspiring, and the way you explain things makes it all seem achievable. Thanks again, I'm a big fan and follow your channel closely. Best wishes from Halifax!

Hey, John! My countertop is dark; it's black granite. It looks great. You do your own thing. I think your countertop looks great. I appreciate all you share with your videos. Thank you!

Your house your decor.. Who cares what other people like. I do like the slide out cupboards. Great idea. It's a good job you don't have a wife. I think you would have been nagged to death about the house not being finished.. Was the cleaver put to good use?? is she buried in the back yard.. LOL
Symon Fobbester Wednesday, January 31st, 2018
I find it hard to believe that it was five years ago that you moved, I was subscribed to you before you moved. How time flies when you're having fun, or does it just speed up the older you get?
Vlad Bigovic Wednesday, January 31st, 2018
Are you married? If so what does your wife think of the delay in the Reno's? πŸ‘

What agreat idea with the pulling out cupboard , i am just gonna substitute the wall with plexiglass/polycarbonate5 0-100mm high or perhaps with two tube on each side. So things can be taken out from both sides. I just need tofigure out on how to make it stable not having a backplate
Jackson Murphy Wednesday, January 31st, 2018
I like the counter top much more now than I did when you first installed it.
Bill Hantzopoulos Wednesday, January 31st, 2018
I think the finished product is going to look great. Nice design on the ceiling, color choices for the countertop and cabinets will go together really well. Looking good.
Peter T Wednesday, January 31st, 2018
I knew that clever has a purpose, hanging from the cabinet door.
Colin Burge Wednesday, January 31st, 2018
Keep up the good work, I have learnt a lot, thanks.

After watching this I feel much better about having no doors on my kitchen cabinets after 2 plus years. ;-)

Your cutting board table thing looks great. What about either using the legs and extending it or making a longer one just like it?
That's Byers Wednesday, January 31st, 2018
Clever cabinet idea. I think the countertop looks great with maple. It has a nice contrast. Enjoyed this walkthrough of you explaining your plans and ideas. Looks like you have plenty to finish, can't wait to see the finished kitchen!

Geezzzz John how tall are you, or do you have low ceilings?

Cornee Tuesday, January 30th, 2018
at 4:49 "I've got 3 bottles, I normally use here in my house" I don't think those are only 3* bottles and it looks more like cases and still more than 3 ;)
Johnny Utah Tuesday, January 30th, 2018
Don't you need different doors that allow wood to be attached to them for the fridge?
Glen Faught Jr Tuesday, January 30th, 2018
Since your counter tops are standard height, you might consider making the island higher(taller) to accommodate your height.
trustme fada Tuesday, January 30th, 2018
Looking forward to seeing the build videos on the kitchen.
Thomas Doherty Tuesday, January 30th, 2018
the rusting fridge, could you give it a light coat of wd40 or even polyurethane?

The window framing above the kitchen sink is great. The combo of maple and the counter tile is really excellent too! Nice!
